On January 26, 2021, President Biden signed a Presidential Memorandum , directing the head of each agency to develop a detailed plan of action to implement Executive Order 13175 , Consultation and Coordination with Indian Tribal Governments, which calls for regular and meaningful consultation and collaboration with Tribal officials in the development of Federal policies that have Tribal implications.

The Secretary of State honors the principles of Tribal sovereignty and self-determination. The Secretary is joined by all Department of State bureaus in the commitment to carry out the goals and the spirit of the Executive Order.

The Department of State will hold a consultation to seek recommendations and feedback on how we can improve the Department’s policies and practices to better engage with Tribal governments. The Department will hold a virtual consultation on:

Date of Consultation: Monday, April 12, 2021
Time of Consultation: 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. EDT
The consultation will be held virtually via WebEx, which allows for video and/or telephone participation; an invitation with the specific link for the meeting will be sent to those who have registered.

Tribal leaders may register for the conference by sending an email to TribalConsultation@state.gov. We ask that your e-mail include your name, title, e-mail address, and the name of your Tribe/Organization/Federal Agency.
