An interagency delegation consisting of U.S. State Department Counselor Derek Chollet and National Security Council Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa Brett McGurk, as well as Acting Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs Joey Hood and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East Dana Stroul, will travel to the Middle East from May 1 – May 7.  Stopping in Abu Dhabi, Amman, Cairo, and Riyadh, the delegation will meet with senior government officials and affirm the long-standing political, economic, cultural, and security ties between the United States and our regional partners.  In Abu Dhabi, the delegation will discuss regional issues and seek to reinforce the U.S.-Emirati strategic partnership, including through cooperation to combat climate change and promote clean energy.  In Amman, the delegation will engage leadership on regional issues of shared concern, reinforce the United States’ long-standing and strategic partnership with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and discuss continued progress on the country’s economic reform agenda.  In Cairo, the delegation will discuss the bilateral relationship, regional security, economic cooperation, and human rights.  In Riyadh, the United States will underscore its support for Saudi Arabia’s security and discuss ongoing diplomacy to reach a negotiated, peaceful solution to the Yemen conflict.  The delegation will also discuss human rights, Saudi Arabia’s efforts to modernize and diversify its economy, and our climate cooperation.
