This reporting tour visited Mount Vernon, President George Washington’s historic home in Mount Vernon, Virginia.  Participating media covered the 58th Annual Independence Day Celebration and Naturalization Ceremony for new citizens. Around two dozen journalists visited Mt. Vernon for the annual reading of the Declaration of Independence and demonstrations by reenactors. They also covered USCIS’ swearing in of 53 citizenship candidates, and then interviewed the new Americans for print, radio and television. Several also had opportunities to interview an actor portraying President Washington himself.
