On November 6, the 100th anniversary of women winning the right to vote in New York State, the NYFPC took press up to the Museum of the City of New York where New York State Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul addressed the foreign media. Hochul chairs the New York State Women’s Suffrage Commission which was stood up to plan and execute programs between 2017, the centennial of women’s suffrage in New York State and 2020, the centennial of universal suffrage and passage of the 19th Amendment. The backdrop of the press conference was a new exhibition called Beyond Suffrage: A Century of New York Women in Politics at the Museum of the City of New York that traces women’s political activism in New York from the struggle to win the vote through the 20th century, and into the fight for women’s rights in our own time.
